Another entrant in the hotel listings marketplace
There seem to be oodles of sites listing hotels these days but in reality the number of hotel databases powering these sites is considerably less than you might think.
That’s basically down to a number of large groups repackaging their database and letting independent sites list the hotels on the database (the independent sites picking up commission on each booking of course). This is why you’ll find that the information and prices on the majority of sites for a given hotel is the same. It’s often far from obvious that an independent site is using one of this handful of databases as these days you generally don’t even see the likes of “powered by Expedia”.
However, Destinia introduces in English market with its own database. It’s a Spanish owned outfit so obviously it’ll have very complete coverage in Spain but you’ll also find that their coverage is quite good elsewhere in the world as, of course, it’s very much an international listings outfit. What you’ll find though is that the text describing the hotels seems fairly new which reflects the relative youth of this listings site in comparison to some of the very old entries that you find in some other place. Does that matter? Well, just this morning I found one site listing a hotel that has been closed for over six years, so, yes, it can matter quite a lot. At the less serious end of the scale, a more recently written description means that it’s that much more likely to reflect what the hotel is like right now.
Definitely worth adding to your list of sites that you use for booking your hols.
