Book clubs, wine clubs, what next?

The book clubs seem to have been on the go forever and the wine of the month clubs for almost as long.

The reasons are fairly simple, of course. For a start it saves people the bother of reading a reviews and then buying the book or wine that has been recommended: join one of the clubs that has similar interests to your own and chances are that most of the time the monthly arrival will be pretty close to what you would have bought in the shop after going through all the reviews. On the other side of the coin, it’s clearly an advantage to only have to sell the product once and thereby get an income stream that continues for years afterwards.

The second is obviously quite useful in the current economic climate and one wonders what other categories of producer are trying to work out some way to create their product of the month type club.
