Breaking up the long distance trips

One of the wonders of the travel industry is that it’s often a lot cheaper to travel further than it is to travel a short distance. That’s in terms of the full price too, not just cost per mile. That being the case, if you’re doing a fairly long distance trip you should take the opportunity to stop off in places along the way that would otherwise be too expensive to get to in comparison to the activities that you would plan to undertake whilst there.

For instance, in our case there are quite a lot of flight options between us and the western half of America with most of them including a change of planes somewhere on the east coast. Think of virtually the whole eastern seaboard too as that expands the flight options and lets you include an awful lot of places that you’d not normally fly directly to. Many of those flights go by way of Toronto for us and therefore it’s often worthwhile to look at cheap hotels in Toronto which is one of those places that you might not normally think of going to but which is very close to a lot of things that you’d like to see sometime eg Niagra Falls is an easy daytrip and you’ve the lovely 1000 island trip in the other direction. Combine those attractions with one of the more civilised airports around and you’ve a great place for a stopover.

In complete contrast to the fairly pedestrian hotels in Toronto, accommodation in Las Vegas is in a whole different league with the range of different types of hotel that’s simply not found anywhere else. It’s quite an odd place to base a holiday too as you’ve the extremes of the city casinos (each of which is an attraction in its own right) and the desert attractions just a short drive outside the city not to mention the shows, the golf courses and so on. The range of attractions is so great that you can plan pretty much any kind of vacation in Las Vegas and suit almost everyone and all at surprisingly low prices.

If you’re going a little further then Los Angeles is one of those rare places that is both an excellent transport hub and a fantastic destination in its own right. The attractions are so numerous that one could write a book on them and the connections are fantastic encompassing most US cities, many European ones, the Pacific islands and Asia all reachable on non-stop flights.
