Catching a last minute bargain

One major misconception that many people make is that last minute sites are only appropriate if you’re travelling locally but, of course, everywhere is local to somebody and naturally the last minute booking sites reflect that. Well, sometimes….

In fact, Last Minute in Australia has only recently revamped their site into a much more usable version which seems fully integrated as a proper Australian site now as opposed to being simply an offshoot of the UK one. Among other things that their last minute flights include the weirdly named airports such as Wagga Wagga (pronounced WOGGA according to my resident Australian) as well as those that would be more familiar in the rest of the world. That’s a big plus as you can built a flight itinerary that follows your requirements rather than those of the masses who generally know a mere handful of places in Australia.

Naturally, it’s not much use being able to turn up in Wagga Wagga if you can’t get a hotel to stay in. You might think that all sites would include hotels in the destinations that they fly to but that’s far from being always the case. The last minute hotels available on Last Minutes Australian site is a pleasant exception to that and had quite a good selection in all of the locations that I tried, even for tomorrow. That’s even including several pretty off-beat spots too.

Sadly heavy duty competition on flights hasn’t, so far, arrived in Australia but the first of the discount airlines have begun to open up with Virgin Blue having a growing number of routes undercutting the major airlines significantly.

Last Minute have made a very worthwhile update to this site which gives quite a comprehensive selection of travel options and good availability on them too.
