Baby bedding

Bedding for babies has come along quite a way since I was a little guy and these days it’s pretty much expected that crib bedding will be stylish and fit in with the overall decor of the bedroom.

Of course, it’s not just the co-ordination of the colours and prints that’s changed: so too has the safety aspect. That means that it’s not really a runner to reuse the bedding from the previous generation for the new arrivals as was commonly done in the past. Not so noticeable is the fireresistance of the materials which means that you shouldn’t even think about reusing pillows and mattresses more than a few years old. There’s also the anti-allergy materials that are so commonplace these days that many people forget that they were rare even just a few years ago.

Anyway, be wary of all those offers of donations that you’ll be sure to get for any new arrival. Often it’s stuff that’s a generation old and doesn’t even come close to meeting current safety requirements.

Are you a collector of garden tools too?

August 14th, 2008

Although “garden” isn’t quite the word to describe the land that’s around our place we find that we’ve a growing collection of various garden tools to look after it all.

Since it’s big and, largely, wild we need a trimmer. Well, when I say “a” trimmer in fact we’re incredibly hard on trimmers and have found that the bulk of them are complete rubbish. In fact, the only one that has lasted a sensible amount of time is ironically one that we figured wouldn’t last more than a matter of months and that’s the rechargeable Black & Decker trimmer. Whilst it might not look overlly robust in practice it’s seen out a number of more beefy looking versions that we’ve used over the last few years and is close to perfect for us with the only downside being that, in an ideal world, the battery would last longer.

We’d actually be sporting one of their chainsaws too but Wendy has vetoed that as she figures that we’d end up slicing an arm off :)

Cute little extras for your garden

August 4th, 2008

With the summer upon us, we’re all spending much more time in our garden than we usually do. But, how much attention have you paid to the decorations in your garden?

Oh, you’ll have the lawn well mown and some nice flowers around it with perhaps a nice set of garden furniture to relax in on the nice days. However, have you thought about little things like wind chimes, cute little garden stakes and less common items like a hammock? That’s even before you move onto more unusual items such as the many items classed as “tree art” these days.

Adding all the above would be a bit much for all but the very largest of gardens but a few carefully chosen items can transform the feel of your garden.
