Getting going on the packing

We’re really getting into the most difficult part of our relocation: packing the luggage.
Going on holiday by plane is a relatively simple affair. You don’t need to worry about taking all your valuables along with you (unless you’re my Aunt!) and instead just need to think about whether you should go down the designer luggage route this year or just run with the slightly beaten up luggage you bought on offer years back. If you’re a designer type person you’ll not need to think about that but if you’re not, you should bear in mind that the extra effort put into the designer ranges mean that you have the really nifty little pockets for bits & bobs that normally don’t come on the cheapo luggage so sometimes it can be worthwhile spending the extra. Having said that, my most useful purchase in recent years was bought on offer for around $5.
If you are going down the designer route there are oodles of different makes to choose from ranging from the very well known (and surprisingly cheap) Samsonite through to the likes of Hartman luggage to the Guccis and son on. Where you need to look really depends on how you plan to use the bags. For example, if it’s mainly business trips with carryon luggage only then something from the Hartman ranges will look stylish and do the job but if it’s long haul tourist trips then the much cheaper Samsonite bags may be less stylish but will probably stand up to a good deal more bashing around by foreign baggage handlers.
As y’all probably know I’m a bit of a sucker for buying luggage and have far too many bags in my collection. By far the most used of late has been a fairly cheap brand carry-on though: all of $5 in a sale. For checked bags though it has to be Samsonite I think and I’ve one case that’s been round the world several times, off to Asia a few times and which really saw some rough handling in India. It certainly shows it’s war wounds after all that but it’s still fully operational and is already packed for our upcoming trip to the UK.
