If people are looking for a more skilful way of finding the grand national winner then can I suggest some of these trends to cut down the national field.

Each of the last 10 national winners have been aged 8-12, carried 11st1lb or less, won over a distance of at least 3 miles, won a chase worth at least £17,000, run in at least 10 chases and had a handicap rating of above 135.

Throw in a couple more stats such as most had run over the grand national fences before and most had run well in another national (scottish, welsh or irish), concentrate on those likely to run in the race and you have just a few left.

Chelsea harbour,Bewleys berry,Mckelvey,Point barrow,Sir rembrandt,Cornish rebel,cloudy lane,Cornish sett,Naunton brook,Comply or die,Philson run,Black apalachi,Homer wells.

Nearer the day of the race we might be able to scrub a few more of these as some look likely to wear blinkers which restrict their view. Only one winner in the last 30 years has worn blinkers but over 130 have tried.

So hope that narrows it down for you a bit and hope that if you pick from these ones then you have a bit better chance than going completely by random

Good luck

Like it - very good. I picked out Simon at 16/1. Not sure about that one as he has quite a bit of weight. But now Ive picked it on this game I think I'll have to back it - could be fate!
