Hotel, regional and city guides
January 16th, 2008
Most hotel booking places just add a brief city guide more or less as an after-thought if they add one at all but HotelsByCity is a little different in adding more of a structure around the guide. Sure, they embed recommendations for hotels in their catalogue from those guides but that’s no bad thing as few people going on holiday have a very specific view on which hotel they should go to in a city that’s new to them.
Their guides are broadly structured on an American model ie states and cities within them which doesn’t transfer particularly well to Europe or at least doesn’t appear to when you’re European. For example, following on from the state model they’ve a very brief writeup of England that gives, I think, something of a misleading impression of what the country would be like to visit.
However, when you drop down to the next level ie choose a city it’s a whole different matter. OK, it’s not an overlly detailed guide but it’s more than enough to give you a good flavour of what, say, London is like. In fact, there’s enough detail there to cover you for a visit of anything up to a week or so which is usually longer than people stay there on holiday. The London guide isn’t out of the unusual either as Manchester is equally well covered.
Naturally, all this effort is to convince you to book Cheap Hotels but it’s nicely done.
