Is it still the case that you only get what you pay for?

In a recession it’s often the case that pricing policies get very peculiar to say the least.

I’m sure that, if you’re observant enough, you’ve noticed this in your local supermarket. I’ve seen instances where packets of the same product are not only cheaper per kilo for a larger size but overall cheaper too. Strangely though even in such cases you still get people buying the smaller packet but I guess we’re all so used to “knowing” that the larger size is bound to cost more that often we don’t bother to look at the actual price tag.

As always, this is even more the case when one considers the Internet. Thus these days many mainstream hosting services can find themselves in the same price range as a budget host would ordinarily have been. That makes choosing a hosting service both easier and more difficult than it has ever been before. Easier because the facilities on offer have long since surpassed anything that a normal person could possibly need but more difficult because it’s a lot harder to judge how well a host will work for you. And, no, the hosting comparison sites aren’t always as useful as you might think as their comment ranking systems still haven’t been fully perfected.

Still, consumers should be grateful for all this pricing complication in their lives. It’s taking prices downwards to a much more affordable level for all of us. Somehow I suspect that prices just can’t go a whole lot lower though. There’s just too many retailers closing down: we’d yet another fairly sizeable electrical chain closing down just a few days ago and I suspect it won’t be the last either.
