Isn’t it just as well that we don’t cost our hobbies?
August 4th, 2008Hobbies are one area where people generally consider money to be no object in achieving their ambitions which is probably just as well given the cost of some of our hobbies.
Pets are almost always a lot more expensive than we think they might be and, of course, the worst in this area are the large animals with horse supplies costing really serious money. Having said that, the price of some exotic fish is far from cheap either and they generally die a good deal sooner than horses do.
My current little hobby seems to be picking up university qualifications. That’s a hobby? Well, seeing as I generally don’t need the qualifications (although they are obviously useful) then, yes, I’d say it would fall into the category of hobby for me at the moment. It does though have the advantage that one can always say “but I’m doing this to improve my job prospects” and I’m sure that many people use equally wooly arguments in justifying the expense of their particular hobby.
