Coke Zero

August 31st, 2007

One of the wonders of Coke Inc is the sheer lengths to which they’ll go in marketing.

The latest of their creations is a neat little site for Coke zero which lets you create your own little movie and mail it around. You can add your own dialog and the characters speak it.

Once you’ve completed your production, it can be rated “life as it should be” film.

Good fun, but you wouldn’t want to be trying it out on a dial-up line.

Berlin calling…

August 31st, 2007

After much consideration of the flights from Girona (or is it Gerona?) and Barcelona, it looks like Berlin has won for October.

All being well, we’ll be heading off towards the end of October for three or four days. I thought that the hotel prices would blow Berlin out of the water but there are lots of good quality accommodation at quite reasonable prices. Haven’t totally settled on a hotel/apartment but we’re aiming for somewhere in the Mitte area (ie central Berlin) which appears to offer the chance to walk around all the major sights over the course of a few days.

We’re planning on booking that sometime in the next few days once we nail down the accommodation. Flights look deadon as they leave Barcelona in the afternoon and get back in the evening.

Location based services

August 31st, 2007

With the advent of affordable GPS and similar technologies, location based services are starting to become available.

Want to know where your child is? One of the available applications let’s you use their mobile phone to keep an eye on where they are (yes, I know, you could just phone them but this is much less intrusive). What about finding the nearest hotel or restaurant?

Of course, on the other side of the coin, this means that businesses can target you more directly in their advertising. So, if you’re closeby a particular restaurant, you’d get an advert from them.

This is one of those wonderful cross-over applications that leverages the power of something quite simple like your mobile phone to give you a vast improvement in capability. You’ve seen in car navigation devices for sale, but why buy one of those when your mobile can tell you exactly where you are?
